My Builder’s Journey

My background in construction started early! I grew up working in our family business, Superior Builders, and matured both personally and professionally alongside it. With this foundation, I gained experience across every major trade. By my early twenties, I had become a job foreman and was responsible for managing crews, coordinating work layouts, and preparing bids for new projects.

During my time with Superior Builders, I worked on all aspects of residential construction, including foundations, framing, roofing, and siding (including log siding). I also gained experience in electrical, drywall, painting, cabinetry, and finish work. Finish work became my area of focus and remains my specialty.

At age 32, I joined the local 646 Carpenters Union. There, I served as a foreman on commercial projects, including both the Tomahawk and Rhinelander hospitals. After the site superintendent recognized my skill set, I was entrusted with overseeing the detailed work. This included curved walls, soffits, and built-in cabinetry.

By 34, I started working independently as a finishing specialist, and have since completed finishing work on over 100 homes. This includes everything from solid wood staircases and log railings to detailed tongue-and-groove interiors and high-end cabinetry.

With decades of field experience, I bring a practical understanding of how to design and build spaces. With longstanding expertise in general contracting, detailed finishing work, and custom carpentry, you can trust Modern Interiors LLC to take on detailed projects of all sizes in Rhinelander, WI.

We recently took on a very large remodel of our lake home in Eagle River. After meeting with different contractors we were absolutely blown away by Andy. From the very start, his attention to detail and communication was amazing through our extensive project. In all he completed a kitchen remodel, a large addition, three bathroom remodels including a custom tile shower, new siding, new flooring, trim, woodwork throughout ,and a new detached garage. We worked with Andy to update our kitchen, dining room, living room, and laundry room. Andy is extremely knowledgeable and very detail oriented on his projects. We really appreciated his advice when making design decisions and he was able to give us great recommendations for materials to use. He also works with people he trusts, and it showed in the quality of the work. He communicated very well all throughout the renovation and he was easy to get a hold of if we needed anything along the way. Throughout the project, he was clean and organized with what he was doing. He was incredibly efficient and was a very hard worker, and the whole project stayed on track with the timeline we had discussed. We couldn’t be happier with how the final results look, and we want to keep using him for all future projects!

Back in early 2022 I was talking with a friend in Lake Tomahawk, and decided to build on my property in the Town of Crescent. By the end of the conversation, we thought that renovating my almost 100 year cottage was the way to go. So I put on my purchasing hat one more time and searched out a contractor to make my dream come true.After several interviews with contractors, I decided to work with Andy Laska of Modern Interiors LLC in Rhinelander Wisconsin. Andy and I reviewed options to renovate the cottage, however, it was determined that tearing the cottage and starting new was the only option.That was the best option and I am totally delighted with my new home. Never building a home this was a new, exciting, project for me. From pulling permits, going over drawings and selecting everything from flooring to shingles, Andy made this entire project a dream come true.One important factor in my decision with going with Andy was removing some of the items from the cottage and put into my new home. I have four post with the jack posts, that frame by gorgeous stone fireplace and my patio door. The porcelain farm kitchen sink was carefully removed and stored.Andy is professional, honest, respectable contractor. Working and communicating with Andy’s sub contractors were like working with an extension of Andy. Great builder! We worked with Andy on our kitchen remodel and sauna in our existing cottage and he also built a new cottage for us. Workmanship is impeccable. He does not cut corners and has beautiful craftsmanship. He is up front, easy to work with and on top of deadlines. Pricing is reasonable and he sticks to his estimates.
