My Builder’s Journey
My background in construction started early! I grew up working in our family business, Superior Builders, and matured both personally and professionally alongside it. With this foundation, I gained experience across every major trade. By my early twenties, I had become a job foreman and was responsible for managing crews, coordinating work layouts, and preparing bids for new projects.
During my time with Superior Builders, I worked on all aspects of residential construction, including foundations, framing, roofing, and siding (including log siding). I also gained experience in electrical, drywall, painting, cabinetry, and finish work. Finish work became my area of focus and remains my specialty.
At age 32, I joined the local 646 Carpenters Union. There, I served as a foreman on commercial projects, including both the Tomahawk and Rhinelander hospitals. After the site superintendent recognized my skill set, I was entrusted with overseeing the detailed work. This included curved walls, soffits, and built-in cabinetry.
By 34, I started working independently as a finishing specialist, and have since completed finishing work on over 100 homes. This includes everything from solid wood staircases and log railings to detailed tongue-and-groove interiors and high-end cabinetry.
